So yeah, it’s that time of year again, where I tick the clock forward one more time and go “Wow, I’m old.”
I’m not, which is funny, and I’m reminded of that since most of my friends are either in their mid twenties or my age and unfazed by their 30-dom. Well, I guess I’m the nutbar, huh?
It is great to look back at this past year and go “Oh, holy shit, I did a lot.” Turning 30 really did light a fire under me, getting me more active sending novel queries out and also forcing me to re-think my whole job situation. And, of course, there was the impending wedding, which also made me want o do better so I could provide for my new family. For the record, no, we’re not having kids right away. Of course, if we do, we do, but we’re not going to start trying. Anything that happens at this stage will be a happy accident. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be at a stage where a pregnancy test is a normal, happy thing, not a sphincter-clenching device of fear and worry.
I’m still feeling my way around something resembling a schedule in my new work-life. The store is doing well, and we have pictures up on our MySpace, and if I get a second I’ll repost them here for the non-Myspace people. It’s funny, because every time I take a picture or set opf pictures to show the place off, we change something a day or so later. In fact, we’re going to be hanging another half-sheet of slatwall and have ordered more shelves so we have even more room for comics. It’s coming together beautifully.
Most importantly, though, I love saying “my wife.” My wife and I do things together that my wife and I like to do, since she’s my wife. It feels great. Things haven’t changed, not really, but they have. We’re married now, and that means something. Being married, it turns out, means something when it’s real and good.
I’m going to try to update this every morning. We’ll see how long this lasts.
