My girlfriend visited this weekend, so I have a lot of cute “my girlfriend and I” stories. Most can’t be repeated in mixed company, but we did go to see “Kill Bill,” which was fun, and had breakfast at the local cafe with a total stranger who let us share his table since it was so crowded. That was kind of odd, as he talked incessantly about all kinds of random things, and when he found out we were writers, did a lot of “You know what you should write about?” stuff, which is one of the reasons, I think, that writers don’t always advertise their profession. I, for one, hate the “Oh, what do you write?” question the most. When you write “speculative fiction,” there’s always a weird little stigma attached to it, and you end up coming up with little phrases like “speculative fiction.” I should start telling people “gay porn,” but with my luck, they’d take it seriously.
Speaking of, I’m trying to decide what, if anything, to write for Novel Writing Month. I’d like to use an idea that I don’t already have in circulation, but really, how realistic is that? I’m more than open to suggestions, although I’ll tell you right now gay porn is off the list. Sorry, fellas.
The season premiere of 24 was great, and I can’t wait to see where this day takes them. It’s nice that they found a something professional for Elisha Cuthbert’s character to do (aside from running around and looking hot, but she does a damn good job of that anyway), and it’s kind of crazy how the cliffhanger from last season just got resolved/explained away in about a minute. It’s almost like we missed a season between the two, but a goodly amount of time has gone on between last season and this one.
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned “Playmakers” on here before, but it’s a great show. In a way, it’s like “Any Given Sunday” the movie, showing the behind the scenes look at a fictional football team. My little plug is a bit late, as they had a first 8 episodes marathon last weekend, but I’m sure they will have something soon.
I’m still drawing, although on some levels it really bugs me. Drawing is very frustrating, because when you write, you write a sentence or paragraph, itís there, all formed and done. You can adjust it and tweak it, but it’s there, almost instantaneously (at least for me, because I’m a fast typist). But with drawing, it’s like living in molasses. Everything takes forever, to become a picture that you recognize, and there are so many minute details that you have to change. I’m impatient, I guess, is what it comes down to. This time, however, I’d like to stick with it. I have a hard time sticking with things, and I’d like this to stick, because I think really, it’d become a very helpful skill in the future.
The future, it’s a good thing to think about. It’s even better to *do* something about it.
Oooooh, contemplative and mystical, I remain…
