I’m watching Howard Dean’s speech on Thursday to Georgetown, which primarily lays out his economic plan. I’m a dork, I watch C-Span. C-Span is at its best, however, when they are showing British Parliament late at night. That shit is *hysterical!* I like Dean, he’s got teeth. I’m hoping that if he takes the nomination, he doesn’t loose them in an effort to court the middle of the road undecided Centrists. That’s what killed Gore in 2000 (*coughNadercough*), and the general trend lately of Democrats trying to be stealth Republicans to appease this “middle ground” demographic. I mean, even the total fringe lunatic right-wing people are still voting for Bush. The far left runs all over the place finding as many candidates as they can and totally fracturing the vote. I mean, look at California. Fucking *Gary Coleman* got about 2,000 votes, and he was only one of a gaggle of total lunatic candidates, and that kind of willy-nilly voting is the reason why Ah-nold is in office, and not Bustamante (well, he’s still in office but you get my point).
Dean works a room well. He’s definitely Presidential. I’ve been curious about Wesley Clark (because as much as I bemoan it, the middle-ground is where elections are won and lost, and people love a military man), but I haven’t pursued much info about him. Bad, bad man, I am.
Anyway. */soapbox*
Jon, you’re right, the Write a Novel in November thing is tempting. 50,000 doesn’t seem like that much, actually, staring down the barrel of my own 110,000 word beast (no, there’s been no editing lately…shush, shush, I know). It’s…tempting. Very tempting. Of course, I’d need an idea.
Okay, that’s a lie, I always have something on the back burner. I could turn one of those on high and see what cooks.
Clearly, my metaphors are still in order.
I actually picked up a pencil yesterday and started sketching. Every once and a while, I like to fool myself into thinking that I can get myself able to draw well enough to get one of these annoying little comic projects off the ground. The rational part of me is always like “Wait, you can try to find an artist later, work on the book, something you can do on your own.”
But I love ‘em. Can’t help it.
Yes, I’m going to talk about comics again. I know this bores most of you to tears. Deal.
I feel bad that I’ve let my “Best Comic of the Week” thing slip lately, but it’s hard sometimes, because you feel like you’re saying the same things over and over again. How many times can you say “Ultimate Spider-Man is great!” It is, and while it dipped down a little bit lately, this past weeks was great. There you go. I also picked up “The Walking Dead” the week before, and I felt bad as I pestered the buyer at Dark Star to order it, and when I got it, I was hit with a staggering wave of deja vous. The plot: A cop, on the job, gets shot, goes into a coma, and when he wakes up an undermined amount of time later, zombies are everywhere. Why do I think I saw that in theaters a while ago? Aside from that, I’m going to stick with it because it looks like it has promise. It’s written by the guy who did “Battle Pope,” and the pencils are just gorgeous (and I was thinking, “God, why can’t I afford to get this guy to draw for me! He’s perfect!”).
So there we go. I kind of surprised myself with the little faces I drew yesterday an today. We’ll see what happens, or how long it takes for me to give up on it.
Hopeful, and patriotic despite it all, I remain…
