We’re getting the band back together!

So, “it’s harpening.” We found a new storefront and put a deposit down on it last Monday. Super-Fly Comics and Games is looking to open Wednesday the 29th, which yes, is the Wednesday after my wedding. We hit a little snag with financing, but I think we’re going to be okay. Now we’re just waiting for the LLC papers to come in the mail (probably tomorrow or Thursday), and then its Federal ID number and vendors license. In the meantime we’re picking out fixtures and trying to figure out the other myriad little details we need to get ironed out (phone & utilities, credit card processing, back account, etc).

You may think that this would be distracting from the wedding, but it’s not. I’m still ridiculously excited to get married, although at this point I’m ready to just have it be time and do it and then party party party. For ever.

So yeah, Super-Fly. It’s not just a store, it’s a way of life.

It’s Only Comics Episode 2 – Attack of the Clowns

So we just got episode 2 done, only about 24 hours or so after we finished filming Monday night. Part One – It’s Only Headlines! This week’s Comic Book Headlines! Rob Liefled and Robert Kirkman gush their 90s love! Batgirl tries to fight crime while making time for baking! Dynamite gets more hot properties and more.
Tony Barry’s Open Letter to Michael Bay. He hates him for not hating Transformers!

Part Two – It’s Only the Round Table: Zudacomics: is it the future of webcomics or a slinky deathtrap luring naive creators to their doom. Thacher, Tony, Steve and Travis discuss!

In other news, I’ve been running around busting my ass, not only to do the show and to do the wedding stuff, but to try to open my own store with employee/It’s Only Comics fellow/business partner Tony. We made a great stride today, getting the agreement to buy part of the store we work at (the comic book business part) accepted. That glorious celebration lasted literally ten minutes, and we found out the store front in town we were going to rent was rented to someone else. So now we’re back to square one. Not much of a happy evening.

I’m hoping all of this is happening for a reason and staying positive, but it’s tough. Really, really tough. Negotiating this deal was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, and to have it come off so well was just a huge weight off my shoulders. Finding out that the one storefront in town for rent has been rented just broke the whole damn thing in half. Maybe something will become available soon, but who knows. I’ve put so much mental energy into doing this that to now have it falter is really heartbreaking. I was ready to *run* with this, get the capital rolling and put together not only an awesome place to sell awesome stuff, but a cool place to hang out and a place to film the show as well. Now we just have to play the waiting game.

I’ve played it before, I just don’t want to anymore. I’m ready for the real game.

Dispatches from the Back

So the first episode of “It’s Only Comics” is online. You can view all four parts it on the IOC MySpace page or our YouTube channel. We learned a lot making this episode, and we’re taking a little bit of time to dissect the results before we go into the studio again.

Eagle-eyed viewers may notice that “studio” actually means “my dining room.”

So stay tuned for more IOC info, as well as some other tidbits about my other devious little plans.

We saw “Transformers” and it was much better than expected. Even Kenzie enjoyed herself, and I must say that despite the super-blenderiffic action sequence ending that I had a hard time following, I found it a really great movie. Already purchased tickets for Tuesdays midnight “Order of the Phoenix” premiere, and we’re both very excited for that.

I was also really intrigued by the JJ Abrams trailer before Transformers, the one with the handicam shots, godzilla noises, NYC being destroyed and no title. I’ve been messing with the viral marketing campaign they’ve got up at ethan haas was right as well as on the IMDB boards for the movie (which I’m too lazy to link to, but it’s coded as “Cloverfield.” Supposedly more info will be appearing on August 1st. The puzzles are a lot of fun, and when you finish them you get to put your name and email in to get reminded of stuff (presumably whatever happens on August 1st, which I’m hoping will be actual title of the movie). From what I’ve pieced together it seems to be a non-Godzilla giant monster that may be tied to Cthulu/Lovecraft stuff. The movie is apparently written by Buffy/Angel/Lost writer Drew Goddard, who is non-shitty, so I’m interested.

This is the third time I’ve edited this entry, so I’m going to stop now.
