The Demonweasel Speaks

So I was honestly unprepared for how angry I would be after waking up this morning.

Then again, I was completely unprepared for him to hold a steady edge on the popular vote the entire evening. I was sure, that if he was reelected, that it would again be through Electoral College Hoo-dooery.

David Gergen said last night on CNN that he can imagine that those on the loosing side of this very divisive election must feel an incredible sense of alienation from the rest of America.

Kiddo, you ainít just whistling Dixie.

Iíd gotten to a point in my life where I felt comfortable living in the Midwest, envisioning that I could maybe spend the rest of my life here in my nice liberal community and be happy. Today, Iím appalled. Iím sickened. I found myself looking at the straight-laced strangers in town and wondering ìDid they vote for Bush? Is it possible?î

I simply donít understand it. When I try to put the Bush mindset, and the mindset of their supporters, into some sort of logical order, to try to get some sort of cohesive structure to it so I can find out where the core, underlying differences are, all I get are contradictions and headaches.

People exit-polled kept saying that characters issues where why they voted the way they did. Character? This is an administration and party that wants to be able to tell you who you can marry (not someone of the same sex, because they say thatís wrong), tell you what you can watch, read or listen to in your own home (tighter FCC regulations on ìadultî language and content, because at any time children could be watching something that could upset them or that they donít understand), sells contracts to companies owned or partnered by their own officials (Halliburton) and wants to be sure that prayer (to their God) in insured and protected in public schools (because all children attending schools are practicing Christians, and those that arenít just donít know any better) and that wants to tell women what they can do with their reproductive rights (abortion issues, stem cell research).

And they accuse the ìliberalsî of wanting big government.

People should be free to do whatever they want as long as it doesnít hurt or affect anyone elseís right to do the same.

But thatís not good enough for them. Itís not ìI know whatís best for meî itís ìI know whatís best for you.î

And where do they get this nugget of insight from? Apparently, they all have a hotline to the Almighty, and their God tells them that not only is he the best, number one, only one and true God, you have to make sure other people do what he says.

Because itís not enough for them to believe in their God, to follow that certain moral path, everyone else has to.

We give an exception to the largest group of people who believe in a particular invisible man in the sky than we do the other people who believe in a different invisible man in the sky.

And the sick thing is, supposedly, their invisible man in the sky tells them that they should be taking care of their own business before mucking with anyone elseís. I guess if your listening to invisible men in the sky, itís understandable that you get some mixed messages.

All day, Iíve been thinking ìGo to Church, loose your Vote.î

Iím so fucking sick and tired of letting a group of people get to tell everyone else in this country how to live their lives because they all hang out together on Sunday mornings and thus they are better than everyone else. Thatís what itís about, donít forget it for a second: they are better than you, because they have these ideas, these notions, these morals. These things that tells them they can deny rights to women and homosexuals because those people are bad and wrong. You think Iím wrong? Just listen to them. Theyíre the ìmoral majority,î the religious right. Their name alone implies superiority.

The sickest thing is that thereís a majority of people who voted for Bush not because they believe in his ideals, but they believe that heís the only thing keeping us safe. Safe from the bad men and terrorists lurking around every corner willing to destroy our way of life.

Do those people exist? Of course they do. Should they be stopped before they kill again? Of course.

But does invading other nations and creating global policies that only aid us and fuck over every one else (pulling out of the Kyoto Accords and the anti-ICBM treaties) the way to do it? Is it just to preemptively strike at those nations that could possibly do us harm, even when the facts surrounding how dangerous they may be are questionable? Shit, why not disarm every other nation on earth. That will keep us safe. Why not turn the middle east into a smoking crater, that will teach them to ever dare to not like us, to even think of striking at us. Letís put the fear of our God in them, carpet bomb their cities and streets, murder their civilians because thatís what they did to us. Itís what they deserve for liking a different invisible man in the sky.

Take off, nuke the whole site from orbit. Itís the only way to be sure.

Those people voting for security, these people so threatened by the idea of us working *with* other nations to secure a global peace for everyoneÖI donít know what to say to them. All I can say is this: when the draft comes (donít kid yourselves), get to voter rolls. If you voted for Bush, hereís an AK-47 and a ticket to the middle east. You want to take the war to them, you want to make sure this country is so safe, *you do it.*

Voting for Bush because youíre worried about security, and ignoring all the other issues that the Republican party brings to table is like voting Nazi in Germany and going ìWell, gee, I know they donít like the Jews, but the economy is *great* and the trains are running on time. I can live with the other stuff, because hey, not Jewish.î

This is a grossly divided America. Along cultural, racial, economic and sexual lines. And right now, apparently, their side has the mandate. Thatís what ìjust voting for securityî has done.

Iíve tried, honestly and truly, Iíve tried to keep from having an ìus vs. them/black vs. whiteî mindset, because thatís what they have done, but I canít do it anymore. I canít sit here and let them, these hypocrites, these liars, this moral majority be unchallenged. I should be better than this, I should be able to take the high road, be able to let them go to their churches and talk to their invisible men and be at peace, because them doing that shouldnít have any affect on me or anyone else.

I canít stand it. I canít stand to look at their Churches and their hypocrisy. Their morals that tell them that if someone is different then they are wrong. You can tell me that they arenít all like that, that it isnít in ideals passed along by the invisible man, but look around you and thatís what youíll see. I donít go to church and I donít believe in God so Iím a freak. I donít have morals, I need to find Jesus, I need to be saved, and if I donít I need to be stopped.

They arenít preaching tolerance, theyíre teaching hate, control, and fear.

Right now, I canít look at this country and see anything else but that, and I fear not only for my future, but for my daughters. If I donít raise her the ìright way,î when will they come after her? What will happen in her future?

They will force their ideals, their morals, their God, down our throats, and so help you if you struggle, if you donít want it, because then youíre the enemy. Youíre a Liberal, youíre a Traitor, youíre a Queer, youíre a Feminist and you hate America.

Why canít we stop them? Why is everyone so afraid?
